SL is full of Trash
So, after taking a break to play that piece of shit game Everquest 2, I went shopping with a friend of mine today in SL, checking out all the latest and greatest ripped off creations, textures, sounds, and hairstyles from other games or right off the renderosity site.
I can't begin to discuess the numerous crap in the game, so I'll just break it down:
Hair: My friend. she is a hair fanatic, but half the popular stores (with the people dancing outside afk) like ETD or whatever the fuck it's called, all had the worst fucking crap. Some hairstyles actually looked like pixelated shit piles. I have to say, I work at a business were a see a lot of women... none of the hair in SL even comes close to realism. Best description of what I saw- big fucking chunks on one side, missing pieces on the other. Sometimes just haphazardly placed detail, prims and the like. Most of the textures are ripped from Renderosity and other poser sites, I can provide links. Most of it seems to appeal to those blond hair avatars, you know the ones with the same generic shapes and crap skins from Nomine.
Furniture: this shit gets crazier with each release. It's become difficult to even tell what some things are supposed to really be. Also a lot of photosourced crap. Seems like every bed, chair, coffee table, lamp post, doormat now comes with craptastic sex poseballs. You know those ones where you can hump another avatar in some stiff scary pose. Lot of those fucked up furries use them. Can't even buy a simple chair anymore without getting a blowjob poseball stuck to it.
Houses: This stuff gets more boxy, more crappy. I think I saw textures on a couple of the 'popular' houses from other games. Not forgetting those houses with that "leave your drama at the door" script. That's fucking wacked. I was really in the market today to buy a SL home too...well a new one. Too bad everything is shit.
Weapons: Usually I got into them myself. After shopping around, all I saw was a bunch of ripped off textures applied to crappy prim models. I love the quality claims some of the bigger creators make too - "most realistic" and "quality speaks for itself" statements. Well, there sure is quality there - those ripped off textures from other shooter games, that more talented artists created, stolen by some big SL nerd and then applied to crappy SL models, just so he can make a buck. Also to be honest - don't care what features they claim to have, it's the same piece of shit kiddie script in each gun, just altered and then married to a new particle effect to give off an impression of new. Reality of it all - same shit.
Clothing: Something everyone can photosource, so how the hell do these people get this one wrong? Too much color on one damn article of clothing and gypsy looking crap. These people seriously need to take a look at the fashion industry. Of course between bullshitting people in SL and making craptastic new outfits, they don't have the time. A good example of POOR quality is Image Reflections. Ironically the name fits the store. I think the creator just reuses the same textures (changed here and there of course) on each outfit. Look at the old stuff, then the new, see that reflection? Ya, you know what I'm talking about.
Back to Eq2 for me, for now.

While the comments you say are true, you should be reminded of why they are true.
The Community (it's horrible). Most of these people never played a real game outside of sims or some sub par MMORPG like EQ (which you play) or World of Warcraft. Losers migrate to the same games. The SL community, does NOT have the honor, dignity or respect for other peoples work such as the polycount,3dsmax various communities or first person shooter communities respectively (all that exist in the real world this industry was forged). Thus stealing peoples ideas, textures etc are something the no minds of the collective SL community can never grasp. From the architecture people build, using textures from other games, to guns (usually the most popular stuff), are using stolen textures. Those people are losers, or actually uninformed idiots. They would never make it in the real gaming industry or communities. They would be laughed at and banned from those communities for being thieves and disrespectful motherfuckers. I really wouldn't be too hard on them though, they are clueless. They think they are doing something cool, but it's just foolish and at times, hurtful. I wouldn't say anyone I know in SL, to be a TRUE artist by any right.
As for you Phantom Stranger, I do know who you are in game, though we never spoke and I saw you for a whole 15 seconds. You had some nice items on I had never seen before in the game, and I will take your word for it if you say you created those textures or they are royalty free at the least, but who is to say you are innocent of these crimes you rant about?
Luckily the next generation pc games will be hard to steal from other than people trying to assemble mere primitives into the shapes of
things from those games. The textures will be a lot harder to steal/photosource.

most of the houses people build are bad. Same stupid hollowed out areas, stupid textures. Some of the actual nicer ones look like surburban nightmares. I don't like amsterdam either. The digital hookers played by men in their parents basement, that hang out there are all ugly as hell. You must not forget to add those avatars to your trash list.

I agree with original creations and people boldly stating "they are the best" because not much of those things are even true.

The truth you ask? That SL is a fucking mess fille with two-faced fucks. That person this blog owner interviewed was right on the money about the scripters. I feel bad. I too have had the same issues with the community in SL.
Unless you have the know-how, you won't get assistance from anyone who already has it. People who can script in SL are wack jobs. They never will help, they say take a class, they are always busy. Money doesn't seem to persuade them to help either. They usually are poor fucking builders too. The really talented people can't script but because no one will aid them, they don't get to participate in SL in the way the game falsely advertises. I think it's persumptious for some of those scripters to think by reading some wiki site, that a beginner will learn. Not everyone is born to script. Just like most of those scripters probably are total losers in RL. The fact they can and won't help others, is a direct indicition that they are afraid someone with some real building skill and imagination will come along and start making money, that they should be making. To them, teaching someone else means they can potentionally lose money. Then they can add that to their list of other lost things, such as - normal social life, sex with a real girl/guy, mental stability, friends.

My original comment mysteriously vanished. The central roles in the culture of capitalism are the consumer, the laborer, and the capitalist, each operating according to a set of rules orchestrated and enforced by the nation-state. That being said, there is a sign above my shop I kindly put there which warns all consumers. If the consumer won't stop and take a moment of time to read it, and they make a blind purchase and then come back to me with compliants, who's fault is it really?

A few weapons might look like someone elses freebies, but I assure everyone my products are top of the line items with some of the best original and powerful scripts you will come across in SL. Other merchants such as yourself are just jealous at the quality products I sell, and my unprecedented success. Your business fails because profit in a capitalist culture comes largely from the capitalist's control of the surplus value of labor. I maintain that control and make every customer of mine happy. Can you say the same?
