SL is Racist Rant/Emulator???
I swear, the fucking choices for last names you get is pathetic. If I was a minority coming into the game I'd be screwed into picking some white last name. Fucking sad. It's not hard to come up with last names. Instead of having so many bergs and burgs they should replace a couple of those with something else, so the games more accessible to other people of different backgrounds. I'm just saying this because I had a good friend who is Japanese that wants to join sl, but isn't given even 1 choice (and it should be more than 1 choice) of a last name that fits them. They got mad and emailed Linden, and got a nice email back saying they were S.O.L. I went and looked at the list and thought it was stupid. The people suggesting names should be shot. Most of them are ridiculous. One word - Trenchmouth. Whoever suggested that name should be blacklisted as a total moron. Half those names sound like disgusting bodily functions. How can you not help but pull out a SpaceMonkey pig shooter gun and grief some player with the last name Hoggard? Who in their right mind would even want that piece of shit last name?
SL is bullshit anyway, I mean with the Lindens doing nothing to people that rip others off like Jamie Bergman, those last names and letting morons put up impeach Bush signs all over amoungst other things. The best thing to come of SL is the emulator in the works. Yes, it was bound to happen though, just like with every massively multiplayer game. This of course is underground and out of my hands, but yes there's one out there running on something like 15 sims or so at the moment. I guess the guy behind is an ex-employee of a very popular gaming studio who originally developed the Havoc engine. Heard it's tight and 3d app friendly, ie - 3dsMax,Maya and the bunch. It's free to play too. If you want to set up a sim and have it added in you have to provide your own server, but as far as I heard, the team behind it hasn't implimented that option yet (rumors). As of right now it's up and running off their machines and in the testing phase. RC1 of the client is out there, if you know where to look.

I agree, that last name list is stupid. There's no variety. I wanted to make an alt but there's not one appealing last name on that list and most of them are aimed towards the white demographic.
I heard about the emulator on IRC through a bit torrent site. I didn't know it was up and running though. Do you know the requirements? More sun Java and mysql setups? Keep me posted because I can't find it.
They should have more last names. I'm sure if all the names were black, asian and hispanic a lot of the players would complain. I'm still waiting to make an alt myself, but the last names suck at the moment. That trenchmouth name and squeegee are pretty stupid. I can't figure out why they even put up names like that. Hoggard sounds like a fat name, which probably works well with 95% of the SL community heh.
Too many berg/burg last names is right! God aweful sounding. Reminds me of a fatty hamburger. The only normal name on there at the moment is Christensen, but I bet one of the little forum nerdy teens who like that Hayden Christensen guy thought it up.

Tried the emulator myself a month back. It runs well. There's some functions totally absent, like profiles, music and landmarks, but you can do basically everything else. It's pretty cool to be able to get models made in maya working too. I still fsvor the real SL though. All my favorite clothes and toys are in it. I guess for newcomers it's cool.
Yeah the name issue is a downer. I don't understand why they pick so many of the same ethnic or silly names. Why not just make all cool names people would want? Why are the old names not even accessible? I think the lindens are pretty poor developers.
yeah I'm not white myself and not jewish and some of the names on the list don't work no offense just wanting to be who I am.
I am dying to make an alt myself that has a last name appropriate to my nationality, but I don't see anything on the current list of last names that's remotely anything but KKK.

Well the current list is a disappointment and yeah a bit racist and leaning towards ONE color. Also, these names Linden currently listed are really just plain ugly sounding with maybe the exception of one.

they should just make it so you can make your own last name, new people and old. As long as their isn't any duplicate first names with last names it should work out well. In second life you can do or be whatever, you should be able to choose your last name, even change it when you want.

I don't get why they can't let us pick our own lst names? Even for our original characters. I mean phillip asshole linden must want total control over us. the game is already crappy looking. I swear peopels builds look like some old style crap game. It's all shit. Havoc blows anyway. California is fucking gay/
what really needs to be done, is someone needs to just post the emulator info up here so we can play with our own names, our friends and as many prims as our system can take. I know it uses eclipse, sql and all that shit though. I saw a screen cap of it once before, but didn't think twice about it but now I really want to play on it.
